Shrovetide

There are many national holidays in Russia, when people all over the country do not work and have special celebrations.

Shrovetide is the slavic traditional holiday.

It lasts the whole week: from Monday (16th of February) till Sunday (22nd of February). Shrovetide has special celebration. It is famous for an unusual race with frying pans and pancakes. We burn a dummy, made of straw and old clothes, on the bonfire. This means the end of winter. We meet spring. All people visit each other and have fun!
